“The monastery should, as far as possible, be laid out in such a way that everything necessary can be found within the enclosure. In this way, the monks will have no need to run outside, which is not at all advantageous for their souls”.

Rule of Saint Benedict, chapter 66

NEW BUILDINGS IN THE HEART OF THE MONASTERY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE MONASTIC COMMUNITY

The current organization of the monastery, which until now has favored the conversion of existing buildings, lacks space for the monastic life of prayer, reading and work, in silence and peace. The monastic community wishes to rethink the heart of the monastery and better adapt it to its needs in order to meet the challenges of the future.

>> Project financing

This project, essentially financed by the generosity of the general public, could benefit from
subsidies from the Fondation des Monastères, ARRIA (Aide aux Religieux et Religieuses Invalides ou Âgés), the Fondation du Clergé and CORREF
(Conférence des Religieux et Religieuses de France).

BETTER SUPPORT
MONASTIC LIFE

The monastery has no cloister (i.e. covered galleries linking the various buildings). The linen room, located behind the hotel, will have to be moved. The kitchen, dating from 1990, is no longer up to standard and overlooks the main staircase, causing problems for monastic life (odors, noise…).
Our ambition is to create material conditions more suited to monastic life.

BETTER CARE FOR OUR BROTHERS
ELDERLY OR SICK

Today, the elderly and sick monks live in rooms scattered throughout the monastery’s various buildings, making it difficult for the nurse and his assistants to care for them and bring them meals.
Our ambition: in the heart of the monastery, to enable elderly or sick brothers, models of wisdom and experience to continue participating in the life of the abbey, even attend liturgy, thanks to the cloister, build an infirmary adapted to their needs.

BETTER SUPPORT
VOCATIONS

Currently located on the top floor of a building where we could install an elevator for elderly brothers who are still independent, the novitiate will be moved to a more suitable location, in order to meet the requirements of canon law: it must be separate from the rest of the community.
Our ambition: to provide better training for the young people to share our life.

In this beautiful medieval village, the “Heart of the Monastery” project aims to combine harmony and originality.

WITH YOU, WE WILL BUILD
THE FIRST CLOISTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE MONASTERY TO SERVE THE MONKS

Built with respect for nature in mind, using Burgundy stone – quarried 15km away – the cloister offers monks a peaceful place to pray and wander, ideal for reading, meditation and contemplation of nature, with its old-fashioned garden. It will also link the various centers of liturgical life.
